(2024-10-19) Episode 9

The art assets are struggling to catch up to the story.

That’s, in a nutshell, what’s happening with the game. Unlike JPDE1, which was an experimental wild west of a game, where I did whatever I wanted while figuring out how making a game worked, JPDE2 has a clear long-term story. I already know the big players, the big events, the arcs, who and what if not the how.

Unfortunately, though, my team’s artists can only work on so many pieces each month. For example, Chocojax, who does all our amazing sprite work, can only make two sprites per month. If you add in that she’s also a busy artist on Twitch and going to cons, it makes sense. Then of course, there’s the general needs of breaks for vacations, sometimes family emergencies, etc…

The result is that: for the last couple releases JPDE2 has been barely getting the assets it needs in time, and with the next story arc it’s going to be even worse. Just to give you an idea: Team ARSN -Aka, Jaune/Ren/Sierra/Nora- needs to be complete before we go into Menagerie, and we only have half of them. That’s without counting the other characters, like Jacqueline’s Mom and Assam Morlus of the Red Fang, just to name two…

So the choices presented to me are: either compromise the story I want to tell or take breaks in-between Arcs of JPDE2 as we wait for the art assets to build up…

You can probably guess from the [END OF SEASON 1] part which one I chose. But that doesn’t mean we won’t release anything in-between!

It just means that, while JPDE2 builds up strength for the next arc, well… We have a Remaster to work on, don’t we? ;) The first demo of JPDE1REFRAIN is already out for Supporters!

Overview:
ShoSakyu follows a lonely, impulsive guy (that’s you) who finds a summoning book in a park one night after work. Upon using the book (without reading it) you’re shocked to find our main girl of the story Nono, who is a succubus, knocking on your door to fulfill the contract you’ve unknowingly signed. Despite her determination however, it becomes painfully clear that Nono doesn’t seem too cut out for the job. After an awkward first meeting, Nono ends up moving into the guest room, and you must try to resume your life as normal while taking care of her.

After Nono became a licensed succubus, her kind still had doubts she would ever achieve anything. Growing up accustomed to bullying from classmates and adults, she developed to be more meek than everyone else, with an over optimistic outlook as a coping mechanism for their harsh words. On her first day of work, she placed her summoning book in the human world and waited with a sick pit in her stomach. After some time, she was ripped from her home and onto the balcony of a strange apartment complex.
The meeting between you and her couldn’t be more awkward. You who didn’t mean to actually summon anyone, and Nono, who is too shy to actually have sex at all. You try to explain yourselves, only to reach the conclusion that going home for her would be far too embarrassing, and she’ll just have to stay until she can gather the courage to have sex with you.
But because Nono is choosing to stay with you, other succubi become curious, and drop in to see what’s going on. Of course they aren’t the type to leave empty handed. Throughout the story, you’ll learn about Nono, her past, and the succubi race, and in doing so you’ll find out what must be done to help her.
Humanity is the same as ever however, you still have to go to work, despite all the excitement at home. Your coworker can tell something is different about you. Will you let her in on what’s been happening to you? She’s always been a brat, it’s hard to tell how she’d respond. Maybe you shouldn’t, in case Nono ever wants to come visit you at work, or even work there herself…

Developer Notes:

  • Highly Expressive Sprites: Instead of full faces, each expression component (eyes, mouth, eyebrows, misc) are their own file and can be combined freely with each other to make hundreds of faces. There are also multiple poses for each character.
  • Extra Scene Mechanics: Many scenes have extra features, such as panning and opening doors wider to focus more on what is being shown (during peeking scenes).
  • Moving Around: This is a free roam game that uses buttons to move to different areas of your apartment and the city.
  • Interactables: There are many different interactable objects throughout areas to find and use.
  • Order Items: Scroll online shops on your computer to find gifts for nono (such as a new outfit), items that you can use on yourself or her (such as aphrodisiacs’ and toys), and more.
  • Stats: There are stats for Nono’s affinity for you, her hunger, how horny she is, your hygiene levels, and more which aid in raising Nono’s happiness day to day.
  • Mini Games: So far there are two mini games in ShoSakyu, both of which you can play with Nono on the computer optionally to raise relationship stats, and a third mini game planned for going to work.
