– It’s clear from looking at the game files that this was once meant to be an actual RPG, but turned into a kinetic novel early in development. There’s a bunch of unused maps with blank events for stuff like doors, but nothing that could genuinely be called ‘cut content’ that you could restore.

-References to gravure idols were localized to, basically, stuff relating to softcore porn that a teen boy would likely be aware of. Because I’m not going to explain what a gravure idol is using an ingame footnote the way I might if this were an actual book, in a game that utilizes four lines of text at a time. Because gravure is arguably just a japan-specific term for generic softcore porn, and there’s nothing especially culturally relevant to the game here, it’s just ‘she looks like she’s posing for a porn shoot’

-The characters swear somewhat more frequently than in the Japanese, because they’re high schoolers, and idk about you, but a high school without people sometimes casually dropping the f-bomb feels incredibly unnatural to me. As is dirty talk without swearing. Mostly used for emphasis on statements like ‘yabai’, meaning ‘oh no’ intensifying up to ‘oh god’ and ‘oh *fuck*’ when Japanese-style repetition for emphasis would feel annoying/unnatural in English.

-Most of the images that needed editing are done. The title however would need a lot more effort in the image manip (far from an insurmountable amount, but still) to remove the Japanese text, and I just don’t want to do that. If you, reading this, feel you can do so, then by all means post your version of the title screen and we can integrate it no problem

-Last names are a complete guess on my part. If the kanji aren’t spelled out, and as far as I can tell they never are canonically, that’s all they can be. So Suzuka is Suzuka Nami, and Haru is Haru Ohinata. That made ‘Oka’ suddenly referring to Suzuka by her last name a real barrel of laughs.

-Speaking of ‘Oka’, his name is actually rendered as ‘M岡’ in the Japanese which (assuming ‘Oka’ isn’t a pun I’m not getting) basically means they’re just referring to him by his last name, or a fictional one to hide his real one, but also implying he’s a masochist with the choice of ‘M’. ‘Oka the Masochist’ would be a direct translation, like his counterpart ‘Tani the Masochist’ from the swimming pool short story. I’m making the executive decision to call them ‘Oka’ and ‘Tani’ because the intent seems to be to John Doe them, and the ‘they were a masochist’ part can just be alluded to elsewhere.
